Southwest PDP Upturns Chairman’s Suspension In Oyo.

The Southwest zonal office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday upturned the suspension of the Chairman of the party in Ibadan North East Local Government of Oyo State, Taiwo Iyiola, over alleged anti-party activities.  It said the suspension of Iyiola by the State Working Committee (SWC) was arbitrarily without any preliminary hearing as demanded by the party’s constitution.  PDP spokesman in Oyo State Akeem Olatunji said on the phone that the Zonal Secretary, Daisi Akintan, who signed the letter reinstating the suspended chairman, lacked power to act without the consent of the Zonal Chairman, Dayo Ogunbenro. He said the purported letter was null and void.

Zimbabwe in Process of Engaging 🇲🇿 Mozambique for More ⚡ Power Imports

Energy Minister, advocate Fortune Chasi has said that Zimbabwe is in the process of engaging Hydro Cahorra Bassa of Mozambique with an aim to secure more power.

He revealed that Mozambique is currently supplying Zimbabwe with only 50 megawatts.

Speaking to the Herald in an interview last week, the Minister said:

We are actually in the process of engaging Hydro Cahora Bassa of Mozambique for more power imports, Mozambique has been providing us with 50MW for quite some time and we hope that their capacity will be improving during the course of this month.

His remarks come at a time when Zimbabwe has started receiving 400 megawatts from South Africa power utility, ESKOM.

Zimbabwe is relying on imported electricity for power since local power generators are grounded.

The largest power generator, Kariba Hydropower Stations are not operating to full capacity due to dwindling water levels at the dam. Only Kariba South Hydropower station is working.

Reports also suggest that Hwange Thermal Station is malfunctioning largely because of ageing equipment.

Acute power deficit in the countries has affected every sector in the country. Medical institutions and industry, in that order, have bemoaned the impact of load shedding saying that it was affecting patents and making it unsustainable to conduct business.
