Southwest PDP Upturns Chairman’s Suspension In Oyo.

The Southwest zonal office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday upturned the suspension of the Chairman of the party in Ibadan North East Local Government of Oyo State, Taiwo Iyiola, over alleged anti-party activities.  It said the suspension of Iyiola by the State Working Committee (SWC) was arbitrarily without any preliminary hearing as demanded by the party’s constitution.  PDP spokesman in Oyo State Akeem Olatunji said on the phone that the Zonal Secretary, Daisi Akintan, who signed the letter reinstating the suspended chairman, lacked power to act without the consent of the Zonal Chairman, Dayo Ogunbenro. He said the purported letter was null and void.

Court Summons ⚖ AGF, EFCC over Ex-Gov Yari’s Property

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, summoned the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to appear before it over plans to seize the property of the immediate-past Governor of Zamfara State, Mr Abdulaziz Yari.

NAN reports that Justice Nkeonye Maha, who made the order after listening to the arguments canvassed in a motion exparte by counsel to Yari, Mahmud Magaji SAN, adjourned the matter till Aug. 30.

The motion ex parte, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/948/2019, was brought pursuant to section 46(1) and (3) of the 1999 constitution and order 4 rule 3 and 4 of the fundamental rights (enforcement procedure) rules 2009.

The AGF is the 1st respondent while the EFCC is the 2nd respondent in the suit.

Justice Maha equally ordered that the respondents be served with the court processes within 48 hours before adjourned further proceedings.

DAILY POST had reported that Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, last week ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unseal a property of Yari located at Maitama, Abuja.

Justice Taiwo, who gave the order in a ruling on an exparte application filed by the former governor, held that the action of the anti-graft agency was illegal as it was not backed by law.

Yari, had last week, prayed the court to direct the EFCC to unseal his property located at Maitama, Abuja.

In an exparte application brought on his behalf by his counsel, Mahmud Magaji SAN, the ex-governor said the EFCC sealed the property contrary to provisions of the law.
