The Southwest zonal office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday upturned the suspension of the Chairman of the party in Ibadan North East Local Government of Oyo State, Taiwo Iyiola, over alleged anti-party activities.  It said the suspension of Iyiola by the State Working Committee (SWC) was arbitrarily without any preliminary hearing as demanded by the party’s constitution.  PDP spokesman in Oyo State Akeem Olatunji said on the phone that the Zonal Secretary, Daisi Akintan, who signed the letter reinstating the suspended chairman, lacked power to act without the consent of the Zonal Chairman, Dayo Ogunbenro. He said the purported letter was null and void.

Duterte Arrives in ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Beijing to Raise South China ๐ŸŒŠ Sea With Xi

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is in Beijing for a meeting with counterpart Xi Jinping.

Mr Duterte is expected Thursday to bring up a 2016 ruling on the South China Sea dispute that has for years strained relations between the two countries.

The Hague arbitration, citing violations of the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea, mostly invalidated China’s claim to virtually the entire South China Sea.

Mr Duterte has sought warmer ties with Beijing and has long been criticized by nationalists and left-wing groups in the Philippines for not immediately demanding Chinese compliance with the ruling.

The South China Sea’s waters are a major shipping route for global commerce. They are also rich in fish and possible oil and gas reserves.
